Credit top-ups vs plan credits: what is the difference?

Plan credits refill every month and roll over up to three times your monthly amount. Top-up packs never expire. Here is how both work and how your balance shows them.

Plan credits arrive with your Alomations plan every month and roll over up to three times your monthly amount, while top-up credits are bought separately in packs and never expire. Your balance counts the two separately, so you can always see how much of each you hold.

This matters if your listing work comes in bursts. Most months run at your plan's pace, but a holiday push or a new collection can need more credits than one month brings. Knowing what each bucket does makes it easier to choose between buying a top-up and moving to a bigger plan.

What a credit pays for

Credits are what work in Alomations costs. A full listing (print-ready files, mockups, a title, all 13 tags, a description, variations and prices, published to Etsy) costs about 10 credits when the design is generated with AI. It costs about 4 credits when you upload a design or reuse one you already have.

No plan caps the number of listings, so your credits are the only limit on how many listings you make. The same credits work the same way whichever bucket they come from: a listing costs what it costs, and only the source of the credits differs. For the full breakdown of costs, read how Alomations credits work.

Plan credits: the bucket that refills every month

Every plan comes with a monthly amount of credits:

  • Free ($0): 40 credits a month once your Etsy shop is connected, about 4 to 6 full listings, up to 4 AI images a month, no card needed.

  • Starter ($49 a month): 500 credits, about 50 to 125 listings.

  • Standard ($99.90 a month): 1,200 credits, about 120 to 300 listings.

  • Pro ($169.99 a month): 2,500 credits, about 250 to 625 listings.

On the paid plans, the low end of each range assumes every design is AI-generated, and the high end assumes every design is uploaded or reused. Yearly billing works as pay 10 months, get 12.

Unused plan credits roll over, up to three times your monthly amount. On Starter that ceiling is 1,500 credits. A quiet month is not wasted, and you can build a reserve ahead of a busy season without buying anything extra.

Top-up credits: the bucket that never expires

A top-up is a credit pack you buy on top of your plan. Top-up packs never expire, and they are usable while you are subscribed. That makes them a good fit for work that does not repeat every month: a Christmas collection, a one-off bulk upload of designs you already own, or a test of a new product line.

Because top-ups do not expire, buying a pack early costs you nothing in lost credits. If you know a big season is coming, check the Etsy Q4 calendar and buy before the rush rather than in the middle of it, when you would rather be listing than shopping for credits.

How your balance shows both

Alomations never folds the two buckets into one number. In the finance area, plan credits and top-up credits are counted separately, and every credit you spend is itemised. If your balance drops, you can trace the drop back to the work that used it. If a number looks lower than you expected, the breakdown tells you which bucket moved, so you are never left guessing where credits went.

The finance area also covers the other side of the money. On paid plans, the profit view shows the profit you kept after Etsy fees and product cost on fulfilled orders, which is where you check whether the credits you spend on new listings are paying back. Our article on the finance view: profit after Etsy fees and product cost walks through it.

Credits set aside for work that does not happen come back too. When Aloma, the AI assistant, makes listings for you from a collection plan, it shows the plan and its credit cost first, and anything it does not make returns to your balance.

Top up or change plan?

A simple test is to look at your last two or three months:

  • If you ran out once, before a season or a launch, a top-up covers it, and whatever you do not use stays with you.

  • If you run out every month, your regular pace is above your plan. Moving up gives you more credits every month and a higher rollover ceiling.

  • If most months end with credits left over, rollover is already saving them for you, up to three times your monthly amount.

To compare the plans themselves, see choosing a plan: Free, Starter, Standard or Pro.

Frequently asked questions

Do top-up credits expire?

No. Top-up packs never expire, and they are usable while you are subscribed.

Do unused plan credits disappear at the end of the month?

No. They roll over, up to three times your monthly amount. On Starter, that means up to 1,500 credits can build up.

Can I see what each credit was spent on?

Yes. Every credit is itemised, and plan credits and top-up credits are counted separately, so the two never blur into one total.

Is there a limit on how many listings I can make?

No plan caps the number of listings. Credits are the only limit: about 10 for a listing from an AI-generated design, about 4 for an uploaded or reused one. To see what the smallest amount covers, read the Free plan: what you can do with 40 credits a month.
