Arranging prices across sizes in a template

Set a price for every size once in your Alomations template, check each size's margin against product cost and Etsy fees, then confirm real profit from orders.

In an Alomations template you set a price for every size in one place, with arrange prices across sizes, and every listing you create from that template carries those size prices to Etsy. You then check the margin on each size against its product cost and Etsy's fees, and once orders are fulfilled, the profit view shows what each sale actually left you.

This is for apparel sellers who offer a wide size range, from small up to 2XL and beyond. Larger sizes usually cost more to produce, Etsy's percentage fees grow with the price, and one price for every size either gives away margin on the big sizes or overcharges the small ones. Doing the arithmetic once, in the template, means you never repeat it listing by listing.

Why one price for every size rarely works

The cost of a blank is not flat across sizes. Our catalog lists each product with a "from" price, for example Gildan 5000 from $6.89 and Gildan 18500 from $13.90 (read October 17, 2026). That is where a product starts, and some sizes, usually the larger ones, cost more. Our article on why 2XL and up cost more explains where the difference comes from.

Etsy supports this directly. A listing can carry variations for up to 3 item attributes, and price, quantity, processing profile and SKU can each vary by variation when you switch that option on. A size variation with its own prices is normal on Etsy; the real work is choosing the prices.

Where size prices live in a template

A template holds everything a listing needs apart from the design: the product and category, the price, sizes and colours, materials, SKUs, and the shipping, return and processing profiles. You build it once and pick it when you start a run. If you have not made one yet, start with building your first listing template.

On paid plans, sizes and colours can come from a saved variation profile, set up once and reused in every template. Arrange prices across sizes is where each of those sizes gets its own price, in one view, instead of typing prices into every listing on Etsy. If you run more than one shop, per-shop templates let each shop keep its own price ladder.

Setting the price ladder, step by step

  1. Open the template and choose the product, for example a Gildan 5000 tee.

  2. Choose the sizes you will offer.

  3. Note the product cost of each size, starting from the product's from price on the catalog.

  4. Set the price for your core sizes.

  5. Arrange prices across sizes so each larger size carries its extra cost, plus the fees on that extra.

  6. Check the margin on your cheapest and your most expensive size (next section).

  7. Save the template and use it in your next run, published live or saved as an Etsy draft.

Keep the steps simple. A ladder with a few clear steps is easier for buyers to read, and easier for you to explain in one line of the description, than a different price for every size.

Checking the margin on each size

Margin is what stays with you after costs and fees, so check it per size: the size with the highest product cost is where a price can quietly stop working. These are the lines to count.

Etsy's fee table lists the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including shipping, and the Offsite Ads fee: 15% for shops that made less than $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days, 12% for shops that made at least that. Payment processing fees depend on the country of your bank account, for example 3% + 0.25 USD in the US and 6.5% + 14 TRY in Türkiye. The regulatory operating fee applies to sellers in some countries, for example 1.67% in Türkiye.

Because the percentage fees grow with the price, raising the 2XL price by exactly its extra product cost still leaves it a little behind: the fees take their share of the increase too. Add a small amount on top of the cost step. For the full method, read the margin math for pricing POD products.

After the sale: check real profit in the profit view

A margin check in the template is a forecast. The finance view shows what actually happened: the profit kept after Etsy fees and product cost on fulfilled orders. The profit view comes with paid plans: use it to compare what fulfilled orders actually kept, including orders in your larger sizes, with what you planned. The finance view also itemises every credit you spend.

If a size comes out thin, change its price in the template so new listings carry the fix. For listings that are already live, the listings manager, open on every plan, bulk edits prices by a percentage or to an exact amount.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Pricing every size from the from price. It is where the product starts, not what a 3XL costs.

  • Forgetting that fees apply to shipping. Etsy's transaction fee covers the shipping you charge.

  • Fixing prices on Etsy one listing at a time. Fix the template, then bulk edit the live listings.

  • Building more combinations than you need. Etsy allows unique prices for up to 400 option combinations, and listings with more than 400 variation options cannot use domestic and global pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Does Etsy allow a different price for each size?

Yes. When price is set to vary by variation, each size can have its own price, and Etsy supports unique prices for up to 400 option combinations.

Will higher prices for large sizes put buyers off?

A clear, modest step is easier to accept than a surprise at checkout. Explain it in one line of the description and keep the step close to the real cost difference.

Is the profit view on the Free plan?

The profit view comes with the paid plans. Real orders, fulfillment and the listings manager are open on every plan, Free included.

Can each shop have its own size prices?

Yes. Per-shop templates let each connected shop keep its own prices, so two shops can sell the same product on different price ladders.

You can build your first template and set a price for every size on the Alomations free plan, with no card required.
