On Etsy you can sell things you make yourself, your own designs (as digital files or printed onto products by a production partner), vintage items, and craft or party supplies, but you cannot resell mass-produced goods you bought somewhere else. For a seller in Türkiye, the easiest start is usually digital files or print on demand, because neither one means posting a parcel from Türkiye to another country for every order.
This guide is for sellers in Türkiye who are about to open an Etsy shop and have not settled on a product yet. Knowing which item types Etsy accepts before your first listing protects you from two early setbacks: a listing removed for breaking the rules, and a product whose international shipping eats the profit. The four item types Etsy accepts
In a message to sellers, Etsy's CEO set out that every item on Etsy must be either "Made by", "Designed by", "Sourced by" or "Handpicked by" the shop (Etsy announcement). The same post said listing pages would carry a new item detail showing which one applies, so buyers see the label too.
Made by: items you make
Etsy defines this as "physical items that are made by you, the seller" (Etsy item types). Leatherwork, ceramics, jewellery, knitwear, woodwork and textiles belong here.
Designed by: your designs
In Etsy's words: "As a seller, you can offer your original design as a digital download, or use a third party to produce or print your design onto a physical item" (same page). Print on demand products sit here, and so do seller-prompted AI creations, which must disclose the use of AI.
Sourced by: items that support buyer creativity
This covers items that "enable buyer creativity, like craft supplies, party decorations and items personalized with a buyer's unique text or image." You do not make the item from scratch, but it helps the buyer make or personalize something of their own.
Handpicked by: vintage
Reselling is allowed on Etsy only for handpicked or sourced items: craft and party supplies, vintage, and gift baskets (Etsy reselling rules). Etsy has its own definition of what counts as vintage, so check it in Etsy's Help Center before you list an older piece.
What you cannot sell
The headline rule is short: "Reselling mass-produced items is not allowed on Etsy" (Etsy item types). "Drop shipping is not allowed on Etsy" either, and Etsy draws the line this way: "the items must be original creations, not ready-made or commercially available products" (Etsy reselling rules). Etsy also lists prohibited item categories, among them alcohol, tobacco and drugs, weapons, hate items and violent items (Etsy item types). Designs built on someone else's brand, characters, celebrities or sports teams can be reported by the rights owner, and "Repeat reports of infringement may result in the loss of account privileges" (Etsy IP reports). Original designs avoid the problem from the start.
Which type suits a seller in Türkiye
The real difference between the five options in the table below shows up after the order: who packs the parcel, where it ships from, and what it costs to reach the buyer.

Handmade is a strength in Türkiye, but do the cost sums for a parcel to the US before you list. Under Etsy's June 2026 update, "Starting July 9, sellers outside of the US will need to account for all of their costs, including duties and import fees", and orders shipped without duties prepaid no longer qualify for Etsy Purchase Protection (Etsy updates). Digital files carry none of that weight. You can upload up to five files per digital listing, each up to 20MB (Etsy digital items). Digital listings cannot have variations, and "It's not possible to set return or exchange policies on your digital listings" (Etsy return policies).
Why print on demand is a common first choice
With print on demand, you make the design and a production partner prints the product when an order arrives, then ships it to the buyer. Etsy allows this explicitly: "Using production partners, including print-on-demand services, to fulfill and ship orders is allowed on Etsy, as long as the items being sold are the seller's original design (or the buyer's customization)" (Etsy reselling rules).
The condition is openness. "If you work with a production partner, you must disclose that production partner in your relevant listings" (Etsy listing guide). You add one under Shop Manager > Settings > Partners you work with, and you can show a descriptive title such as "Apparel printer" instead of the partner's name (Etsy production partners). A few practical rules for sellers in Türkiye
Türkiye is eligible for Etsy Payments, but "As PayPal does not operate in Türkiye, PayPal is not available to Etsy Payments sellers located in Türkiye" (Etsy Payments countries).
The payment processing fee for a bank account in Türkiye is 6.5% + 14 TRY (Etsy processing fees). On top come the 6.5% transaction fee on the order total (Etsy fees) and a 1.67% regulatory operating fee for sellers located in Türkiye (regulatory operating fee).
Turkish is not one of Etsy's site languages (Etsy languages), so you will write listings in your buyers' language, usually English.
