To open an Etsy shop from Türkiye, you create an Etsy account, then work through the shop language, shop name, first listing, bank details, identity check, billing card and two-factor authentication, in that order. Türkiye is one of the countries where Etsy Payments is available, so you get paid out to a bank account you connect yourself, with no Payoneer account in between.
This guide is for sellers living in Türkiye who are about to open their first Etsy shop. Etsy's site is not available in Turkish, so every setup screen arrives in another language, and a few choices are hard to undo later. Below we take each screen in the order Etsy shows it and note where sellers from Türkiye often get stuck.
Before you start: a screen-by-screen checklist
Have these ready before you sit down: an identity document that has not expired, a bank account in your own name, a debit or credit card for Etsy's bills, your phone for two-factor authentication, and a product photo and details for your first listing. Etsy says you must have an existing Etsy account before creating a shop. If you have not made one yet, start with our guide to Etsy buyer and seller accounts.
The table sums up each screen and what to watch on it.
| Screen | What Etsy asks for | What to watch from Türkiye |
|---|---|---|
| Shop preferences | Shop language, country and currency | The language is permanent, and Turkish is not a site language |
| Shop name | 4 to 20 characters, no spaces or special characters | Plain letters instead of ç, ş, ğ, ı, ö, ü, and no brand names |
| First listing | At least one listing before the shop opens | Do not skip the production partner and return policy fields |
| Getting paid | A bank account for Etsy Payments | PayPal is not available, and no Payoneer account is needed |
| Identity check | A photo of your ID and a clear selfie | The name on the ID must match the name on the bank account |
| Billing | A debit or credit card, plus a one-time set-up fee | The amount varies by location and is shown on screen |
| Security | Two-factor authentication | Keep your phone with you |
Tax registration and company formation are outside this guide, so check Etsy's help pages and talk to a qualified accountant about them.
Step 1: Shop language, country and currency
The first screen asks for your shop preferences. The language matters most: Etsy asks you to pick one you are comfortable using with buyers and says you won't be able to change it later. The one exception is that Etsy Support can change an open shop's default language after you have translated your shop information and every listing into the new one. If you sell to buyers abroad, English is the usual pick.
The currency choice can also surprise you later. If you list items in a currency other than the currency of your bank account, Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee. For a worked breakdown of every deduction, read our post on Etsy fees and currency conversion for sellers in Türkiye.
Step 2: Shop name and first listing
Etsy's naming rules are short: a shop name must be 4 to 20 characters long, with no spaces or special characters and no profanity, it must not already be in use, and it must not infringe a trademark. The usual snag is that your first choice is taken or uses Turkish letters. We suggest spelling it in plain letters, without ç, ş, ğ, ı, ö or ü, which also makes it easier for buyers abroad to type. Have three or four alternatives ready, and keep brand, team and character names out of it.
Next, Etsy asks for a listing, because you need to add your first listing before you can open your shop. The listing form has 7 tabs you must fill out before you can publish, and each listing costs a $0.20 listing fee. If you sell print on demand, watch two fields: you must disclose your production partner in the listing, and physical listings need a return policy even when that policy is no returns. Our guide to your first Etsy listing, field by field covers the rest.
Step 3: Bank details and getting paid
Türkiye is on Etsy's list of countries eligible for Etsy Payments and is not one of the countries that use a Payoneer account, so on this screen you connect your own bank account directly. Because PayPal does not operate in Türkiye, sellers located there cannot accept PayPal in their shops. However a buyer pays, the money first lands in your Etsy Payment account.
From there you choose daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly deposits to your bank. New sellers start on weekly deposits every Monday, the daily deposit minimum for Turkish lira accounts is TRY 600.00, and a bank transfer can take 1 to 5 business days to arrive. A deposit above the 50.00 TRY minimum but below the 600.00 TRY threshold carries a 42.00 TRY deposit fee. More in our guide to getting paid on Etsy from Türkiye.
Step 4: Identity check, billing and security
Etsy asks you to verify your identity before setting up your storefront, with a photo of your government ID and a clear selfie. The ID must not be expired, and the name on it must match the name on the bank account you added. A common mistake is linking a family member's bank account, which will not match your ID.
On the next screen you add a debit or credit card to pay Etsy's bills. After that comes a one-time, non-refundable shop set-up fee. Etsy's fee table says the cost varies by location, so go by the amount shown on your screen rather than figures you find online. Finally, Etsy requires two-factor authentication as a security measure. Once that is done, you can open the shop.
After the shop opens: your first listings with Alomations
Once your shop is open, you can connect Alomations through the official Etsy API. You sign in on Etsy's own screen, it takes under two minutes, and you can revoke the access from Etsy whenever you like. Alomations uses the official Etsy API but is not affiliated with, endorsed or certified by Etsy. Our post on connecting your Etsy shop to Alomations in two minutes shows each click.
The Free plan costs $0, needs no card and gives you 40 credits a month once the shop is connected, which covers about 4 to 6 full listings. It also includes up to 4 AI images a month, real orders and the listings manager. If you are starting from zero, the free video tutorials in the Classroom come in English and Turkish: one tutorial per lesson, open on every plan, with a guided tour to them from any page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to open an Etsy shop from Türkiye?
Etsy charges a one-time set-up fee whose cost varies by location, and you see the exact amount during setup. After that, Etsy charges $0.20 per listing and a 6.5% transaction fee on each sale. Sellers in Türkiye also pay a payment processing fee of 6.5% + 14 TRY and a regulatory operating fee of 1.67%.
Can I get paid through PayPal from Türkiye?
No. Because PayPal does not operate in Türkiye, it is not available to Etsy Payments sellers located there. However the buyer pays, the money arrives in your Etsy Payment account.
Can I change my shop language later?
As a rule, no: Etsy says you won't be able to change it later. The only route is to translate your shop information and every listing into the new language, then ask Etsy Support to switch it.
What should I check before the identity step?
Your ID must not be expired and must match the name on your bank account. Take the photo in good light with the whole document readable, and make sure the selfie is sharp.
