Setting processing time when you ship from Türkiye

A guide to Etsy processing time for sellers shipping from Türkiye: how Etsy counts the days, where transit time belongs, and how to show buyers a date you can keep.

Set your Etsy processing time to the number of business days you really need to hand an order to the carrier with a tracking number, not to your fastest day. Then build the delivery estimate on the transit times you actually see from Türkiye to the buyer's country, so every buyer is shown a date you can keep.

This guide is for sellers in Türkiye who pack and ship orders themselves or work with a local workshop. Etsy turns your processing time into a ship-by date and measures whether you meet it: its customer service standards, the Star Seller badge and Etsy Purchase Protection all look at that date. The number you type in is less a setting than a promise to the buyer.

What Etsy means by processing time

In Etsy's words, "The processing time is how much time you need to get an order ready to ship" (Etsy). It lives in a processing profile, which carries the time plus a "Made to order" or "Ready to ship" label. Buyers do not see the label.

You can set processing time per listing or per variation, and editing a profile updates every listing linked to it. The ship-by date is "the date that you commit to ship an order to the buyer", and you need to mark the order as shipped by 11:59pm on that date in your shop's time zone.

How Etsy counts the days

A few small rules decide when your clock starts and stops:

  • Processing time starts the day after purchase (Etsy).

  • Processing times count business days, Monday to Friday, and weekend orders count as Friday orders (Etsy shipping profiles).

  • A ship-by date that falls when post offices usually close moves to the next business day.

What Etsy does not know is your own calendar. During long holidays such as Ramazan Bayramı and Kurban Bayramı, your workshop, the carrier's branch or PTT may be closed. Plan for those days yourself rather than assuming they are covered: lengthen the time in your processing profile before the holiday and shorten it again afterwards.

Processing time and transit time are different things

The delivery date a buyer sees is processing time plus transit time. Put only the work in your hands into processing time: production, checking, packing and handing over to the carrier. The days a parcel spends travelling from Türkiye to the US or Europe belong in the delivery estimate of your shipping profile, based on the times you actually see rather than the carrier's best case. Our guide to Etsy shipping profiles for print on demand shows how to set those up.

This split has money attached. Etsy Purchase Protection covers an order that arrives "7+ days after its estimated delivery date window", but only if it shipped within your stated processing time, with valid tracking, and the listing showed an estimated delivery date (Etsy Purchase Protection). An honest processing time keeps you inside that cover.

Parcels to the US carry one more rule. Etsy's June 2026 update says: "Starting July 9, sellers outside of the US will need to account for all of their costs, including duties and import fees". Orders shipped without duties prepaid no longer qualify for Etsy Purchase Protection (Etsy updates).

The parts that make up your processing time

The simplest way to find the right number is to write down every step an order passes through in your hands:

StepWho controls itWhat to watch
Production or printingYou or your workshopUse the time from your busiest week
Checking and packingYouRe-read the buyer's text on personalized orders
Handover to the carrierThe carrier's pickup timeA parcel that misses pickup waits a day
Weekends and holidaysThe calendarEtsy counts business days, you add the bayram
Tracking numberThe carrierStar Seller and Purchase Protection need valid tracking
Transit timeThe carrierGoes in the delivery estimate, not processing time
US dutiesYouParcels without duties prepaid lose protection

The first four rows add up to your processing time. Adding a day of buffer on top means a broken machine or a late pickup does not push you past the ship-by date.

When you cannot keep the date

Even with everything set correctly, an order is sometimes late. Etsy lets you edit a ship-by date once, before it passes, and extend it by up to 21 days, and it asks you to confirm with the buyer first (Etsy).

Shipping on time is more than good manners. Etsy's customer service standards for all sellers ask that "At least 80% of orders ship on time" (Etsy). For Star Seller the bar is "95% of orders ship on time, with valid tracking or a shipping label purchased on Etsy (when required)" (Etsy Star Seller).

Keep one more thing in mind: once at least 5 orders have shipped, Etsy can show buyers your actual processing time, based on the last 120 days of shipped orders (Etsy). Any gap between your setting and your reality becomes visible over time.

How Alomations handles templates and orders

In Alomations you set processing time once, in a template. A template holds the product, category, price, sizes and colours, materials and SKUs together with the shipping, return and processing profiles, and every listing made from it carries the same honest processing time. If you changed a profile on Etsy, "Refresh from Etsy" brings the current profiles into your templates, and before a holiday the bulk Etsy-profile editor changes the profile on many templates at once. Building your first listing template in Alomations walks through the setup.

On the orders side, Etsy orders arrive resolved: design and variant matched, with the buyer's personalization text and photos attached. You can print and ship an order yourself, or send it to a production partner from the orders screen. The row shows which print centre has the order, the partner cannot mark an order shipped without a tracking number, and tracking is posted back to Etsy where Etsy allows it. When a production partner fills a US order, production is in the US, so that parcel does not leave from Türkiye. Because each listing can have only one shipping origin, choose its processing time and shipping profile for the place its orders really ship from.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the processing time on listings that are already live?

Yes. Edit the processing profile and every listing linked to it updates. Make sure the new time suits all of those listings.

How are weekend orders counted?

Etsy counts processing time in business days, Monday to Friday, and treats weekend orders as Friday orders.

What should I do if I am going to miss the ship-by date?

Message the buyer before the date passes, then edit the ship-by date. You can do that once, for up to 21 days. Our guide to tracking numbers on Etsy helps with the messages that follow a delay.

How do I choose a processing time for print on demand items?

When a partner produces the order, your processing time follows the partner's production time. The details are in what processing time to set for POD on Etsy, and the basics of sending parcels abroad are in shipping from Türkiye to US buyers.

You can try managing templates and orders in one place on the Alomations free plan, with no card required.
