Etsy is an online marketplace where independent shops sell things they made, designed, handpicked or sourced, from printed shirts and mugs to vintage pieces and craft supplies. You publish a listing, a buyer finds it and pays through Etsy, and Etsy deposits what is left after its fees into your bank account.

This guide is for you if you live in Türkiye and are looking at Etsy for the first time. It explains what Etsy allows, how a shop opens, what each order costs and how the money reaches a Turkish bank.

What Etsy is and what you can sell

Etsy is not an everything store. In a message to sellers, Etsy's CEO set out that every item must be made by, designed by, sourced by or handpicked by the shop, and said listing pages would carry a label showing which one applies.

For a new print-on-demand seller in Türkiye the category that matters is "designed by". Etsy's Help Center says you can offer an original design as a digital download, or use a third party to produce or print it onto a physical item. The second route is print on demand: you create the artwork, and a production partner prints and ships each order when it comes in. Etsy states that print-on-demand partners are allowed as long as the design is your own, and that drop shipping is not. More in our guide to what print on demand is.

Three rules follow from this:

  • Sell your own designs. Reselling mass-produced items is not allowed, and other people's characters, logos or brand names invite infringement reports.

  • Name your production partner. Etsy requires you to disclose a production partner on the listings it helps make.

  • Say when you used AI. Etsy's rule is that seller-prompted AI creations must disclose the use of AI.

Who shops on Etsy

People come to Etsy for things a chain store does not carry: a shirt with a joke about their job, a mug with a child's name, a print that matches their living room. Gifts, personalized items and occasion products (birthdays, weddings, holidays) fit naturally, and suit print on demand because nothing is made until someone orders.

Etsy's full site is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish, but not in Turkish, and its Help Center has no Turkish edition either. So a seller in Türkiye usually writes the shop in English and designs for buyers abroad. Choose the shop language carefully, because Etsy says you won't be able to change it later.

How a shop opens

Etsy's shop setup guide lists the steps in this order:

  1. Create an Etsy account. You need one before you can create a shop.

  2. Pick the shop language and a shop name of 4 to 20 characters, with no spaces or special characters.

  3. Add your first listing. Etsy will not open the shop without one.

  4. Connect a bank account for payouts and verify your identity with a photo of your government ID and a clear selfie. The ID must not be expired and must match the name on the bank account.

  5. Add a debit or credit card for Etsy bills and pay the one-time, non-refundable shop set-up fee, whose cost Etsy says varies by location.

  6. Set up two-factor authentication.

Türkiye is on Etsy's list of countries eligible for Etsy Payments, and the same page notes that PayPal is not available to sellers in Türkiye. Our step-by-step guide to opening an Etsy shop from Türkiye walks through each screen.

How a sale moves from listing to payout

Every sale passes through five stages, shown here with the Etsy rule or fee that applies to a seller in Türkiye.

StageWhat happensEtsy rule or fee
You publish a listingIt can take up to 48 hours to appear in search$0.20 listing fee, the listing lasts 4 months
A buyer paysThe money goes to your Etsy Payment account6.5% transaction fee, 6.5% + 14 TRY processing, 1.67% regulatory operating fee
You shipThe order is produced and sent before the ship-by dateMark it shipped by 11:59pm on the ship date, with tracking where you can
Etsy pays youYour balance is deposited to your bankWeekly on Mondays by default, 1 to 5 business days to arrive
The buyer reviewsThe buyer rates the order from 1 to 5 starsBuyers have 100 days to leave a review

The $0.20 listing fee is paid even when the item does not sell, and the same fee page sets the 6.5% transaction fee, which also applies to the shipping you charge. Payment processing for a seller in Türkiye is 6.5% + 14 TRY, and the regulatory operating fee for Türkiye is 1.67%. If you list in a currency other than your bank account's, Etsy adds a 2.5% currency conversion fee. Our breakdown of what you keep from a $25 sale puts these together on one order.

Processing time starts the day after purchase, and the ship-by date is the date you commit to, per Etsy's processing time guide. A valid tracking number is needed for an order to count toward Star Seller and to qualify for Purchase Protection. For US orders, Etsy's June 2026 update says sellers outside the US must account for duties and import fees from July 9, and orders shipped without duties prepaid lose Purchase Protection. That is one reason to use a partner that prints US orders inside the US.

However a buyer pays, the funds go to your Etsy Payment account, and Etsy deposits them on a daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule. New sellers start weekly, every Monday, and a standard transfer can take 1 to 5 business days. Etsy may hold part of a new seller's funds in a payment reserve, which for most sellers is removed within 90 days. Our guide to getting paid on Etsy from Türkiye has the details. For tax on your earnings, check Etsy's help pages or a qualified accountant.

What helps a listing get found

Etsy says search results are ordered by how relevant the items are to what the shopper typed, and that listing quality is an important factor in getting found. You control the title, the 13 tags, the attributes, the photos and how you treat buyers. Our explainer on what Etsy SEO is covers each field.

Learning Etsy with Alomations

If you would rather learn by doing, Alomations has two things built for this stage. The Classroom is a set of free video tutorials in English and Turkish, one tutorial per lesson, open on every plan, with a guided tour to it from any page of the app.

The free plan gives you 40 credits a month once your Etsy shop is connected, enough for about 4 to 6 full listings, plus up to 4 AI images a month, the listings manager and real orders, with no card. You connect the shop through the official Etsy API on Etsy's own sign-in screen (Alomations is not affiliated with Etsy), build a listing template once, and each run makes the mockups, title, 13 tags and description, then publishes to Etsy live or as a draft. Production for US orders is in the US. See how it works for the full flow.
