Set up your shop page in the order buyers see it: the banner, logo, shop name and tagline at the top, then sections, the About section and policies further down. Fill each with something specific: an Etsy shop banner at Etsy's recommended 1600 x 400 pixels that shows what you sell, a 500 x 500 logo that still reads when it is tiny, a tagline of up to 55 characters, and an About section that says plainly who designs the products and how they are made.
This guide is for new sellers, especially print-on-demand shops, opening with a handful of listings and no reviews yet. Without reviews, the shop itself is what a buyer judges you by. A tidy storefront, a clear story and policies that answer questions before they are asked all tell a stranger that a real business is behind the listings.
What buyers notice first on your shop page
A shop page reads from top to bottom like an introduction. The banner and logo sit at the top with the shop name and tagline next to them. A buyer who clicks through from one of your listings is looking there for a quick answer to "is this the right place for what I want".
Below that come your listings and shop sections, and further down the About section, your production partners and your shop policies. Those lower parts are where a hesitant buyer goes to check shipping times or returns just before buying.
Etsy states on its Search Visibility page that if your shop is not complete, your listings' search visibility may be affected. Filling in the storefront is not only about looks.
Sizes and limits in one table
Logo and banner sizes come from Etsy's image guide, the tagline limit from Etsy's SEO guide, section limits from the shop sections article and shop name rules from the article on opening a shop. Here they are side by side:
| Element | Etsy's size or limit | What to put there |
|---|---|---|
| Logo (shop icon) | 500 x 500 px recommended | A simple mark that reads at small size |
| Big banner | Minimum 1200 x 300 px, recommended 1600 x 400 px | One image that shows your product and style |
| Mini banner | Minimum 1200 x 160 px, recommended 1600 x 213 px | Shop name and a short message |
| Tagline | Up to 55 characters | One line on what you sell and who it is for |
| Shop sections | Up to 20 custom sections, names up to 24 characters | Groups by product type or theme |
| Shop name | 4 to 20 characters, no spaces or special characters | A short name that is easy to remember |
If you have not settled on a name yet, our guide on how to choose an Etsy shop name covers the trade-offs.
Banner: big or mini?
A big banner gives you a wide image area. A mini banner is slimmer, so your listings start higher on the page. If your shop has a clear style and strong product images, a big banner is the place to show it. If you only have a few listings so far, a mini banner that puts them up front can make more sense.
When you design the banner:
Show the product. If you sell shirts, use an image in the same colours and style as your mockups.
Keep any text short and near the middle, away from the edges, and check the result on a phone as well as a computer.
Skip busy collages. One clear message reads better than five small photos in a row.
Refresh it for the season. A banner updated before Christmas or Mother's Day shows the shop is active.
Carousel and collage banners require Etsy Plus. Etsy Plus costs $10 a month and adds more layout and colour theme options. For a new shop, one well-made static banner is enough.
Logo: it has to work at thumbnail size
Your logo mostly appears as a small square. Thin lettering, long slogans and fine detail disappear at that size. An initial, a simple symbol or one short word usually does the job.
Export the logo on a solid background. Etsy's image guide says animated GIFs and transparent PNGs are not supported, and warns that images larger than 1MB may not finish uploading, especially on a slow connection.
Pick colours that match your banner and product images. When the logo, banner and mockups come from the same palette, the shop looks like one brand made it. Our piece on keeping mockups consistent across your Etsy shop goes further on this.
Tagline and About section: where trust is earned
The tagline is the short line under your shop name. Etsy says it can be up to 55 characters and helps Google understand what your shop sells. Write a plain sentence that names the product and the buyer, such as "Personalized family shirts and gift mugs".
Language matters here too. Pick the shop language your buyers read when you open the shop, because Etsy says you won't be able to change it later.
For the About section, Etsy's SEO guide says Google likes to see your expertise and trustworthiness as a seller and suggests filling it in. A good About section covers:
Who you are and why you design these products.
That the designs are yours, and how the products are made.
Where orders ship from, leaving the details to your policies.
If you can, one real photo of your desk or design process.
For print-on-demand sellers, point two also has a rules side. Etsy requires you to disclose a production partner in the relevant listings, and buyers can see production partner details from your shop's About section. You can hide the partner's name and show a descriptive title such as "Apparel printer" instead. Our guide to production partners on Etsy has the full rules.
Sections and policies: the rest of the storefront
Etsy lets you create up to 20 custom sections. Each name can be up to 24 characters, and a listing can sit in only one section. Build sections the way buyers shop, for example "Teacher Shirts", "Dog Mom Gifts" or "Christmas". Ten sections in a three-listing shop look like empty shelves, so add sections as your listings grow.
Policies answer the last questions before checkout. Etsy requires a return policy on physical listings, even if the policy is no returns, and says listings without one can appear lower in search. Our article on Etsy shop policies covers what to write for personalized and printed items.
How Alomations helps with this part
Your banner, logo and About text are edited in Etsy's Shop Manager, and Alomations does not fill them in for you. Where we help is learning: the Alomations Classroom has free video tutorials in English and Turkish, one tutorial per lesson, open on every plan including Free, with a guided tour to them from any page of the app.
Once the storefront is ready, the listings come next. A template you build once in Alomations stores your shipping, return and processing profiles and applies them to every listing, so the policies on your shop page and the settings on your listings stay in step. The whole flow is on our how it works page.
Frequently asked questions
What size should an Etsy shop banner be?
Etsy asks for at least 1200 x 300 pixels for a big banner and recommends 1600 x 400. A mini banner needs at least 1200 x 160, with 1600 x 213 recommended. The recommended logo size is 500 x 500 pixels.
Do I need Etsy Plus for a banner?
No. Every shop can add a static banner. Only carousel and collage banners require an Etsy Plus subscription.
What should I write in the About section as a print-on-demand seller?
Say who you are, that the designs are your own, how the products are made and where they ship from. Add your production partner in Shop Manager so buyers can see it.
Which language should my shop texts be in?
The language your buyers read. Etsy says you can't change the shop language later, so if most buyers are abroad, write the tagline, About section and policies in their language.
When your storefront is ready, you can try your first listings on the Alomations free plan.
