How Alomations writes titles, 13 tags and descriptions

Each run writes a buyer-intent title within 140 characters, all 13 tags and a description that matches your template. Here is what it writes and what to check first.

Every Alomations listing run writes three pieces of copy for each design: a buyer-intent title within Etsy's 140-character limit, all 13 tags, and a description that matches the product in your template. The copy is written from the design and the template together, in the style your SEO preferences set, so the sensible way to use it is to read the first listings from each new template closely and then let it run at scale.

This article is for sellers weighing an AI Etsy listing writer who are uneasy about publishing text they have not read, hundreds of times over. It covers what each run writes, the Etsy rules it writes within, and the checks we recommend before you trust it with a big batch.

What one run writes, and what it writes from

A run starts from two things you have already prepared. The design tells it what the product shows and whether it is personalized. The template tells it the product, category, materials, sizes and colours. From those, the run writes the title, the 13 tags and the description, fills Etsy's listing attributes from the product, renders the mockups, applies the template and publishes the listing live in your shop or saves it as an Etsy draft, depending on the setting you chose. A listing with one mockup takes from about 90 seconds, though it varies. The whole flow is in what is Alomations and how does a listing run work.

Here is how each field lines up with Etsy's own rules, and where your review time is best spent.

Titles: buyer intent inside 140 characters

Etsy's limit is clear: a listing's title can be up to 140 characters long, and the same guide suggests fewer than 15 words, no repetition and no subjective words such as "perfect". Etsy's SEO article adds that you should clearly describe your item at the beginning of the item title, and notes that search engines only show the first 50 to 60 characters of a page title.

The run writes to those rules: a buyer-intent title, phrased the way a buyer searches, that stays accurate to the product. When the design is personalized, the title says Custom or Personalized. A long-sleeve shirt is never called a tee. For the reasoning behind this structure, see how to write Etsy titles that rank.

One Etsy change makes the first title matter more than it used to. Your listing's URL is based on the title you enter when you first publish, and since March 2026 listing URLs remain fixed after a listing is first published. Editing the title later does not change the URL, which is a good reason to read the first runs of any new template before they go live.

Tags: all 13 slots, each one used

Etsy allows up to 13 tags per listing, each up to 20 characters, using only letters, numbers and spaces (apostrophes and hyphens can appear inside a tag but cannot start one). Etsy recommends a diverse array of tags and calls them great for buyer-minded searches such as "gift for her".

Every run fills all 13 slots within those limits, in the tag style you chose once in your SEO preferences, so no slot is left empty. What to look for when you review is variety: the tags should describe the product, the design's subject, the style and the people it suits, rather than 13 rewordings of one phrase. Our guide to all 13 Etsy tags explains how to judge a set.

Descriptions that match what you ship

Etsy asks for the obvious and often skipped: describe your item in the first sentence, use the keywords shoppers search, and avoid repeating the same phrases. The run's description follows that order and draws its product facts from your template, which is where the accuracy rules come in:

  • Fabric claims in the copy match the template's materials, so a shirt is never described with a fabric it is not made of.

  • Personalized designs are detected, so the sample name on the design stays out of the copy.

  • Etsy listing attributes are filled from the product, which matters because Etsy removed the Materials tag field in March 2026 and materials now live only as an attribute.

What the run cannot know is what only you know: your care advice, how you handle personalization questions, your shop's own policies. Check those in the first listings and add them where they belong. Our guide to Etsy descriptions buyers actually read covers the parts worth adding by hand.

SEO preferences: set the style once

SEO preferences hold two choices: how long your titles should run and what style your tags take. You set them once in settings, and every run follows them, so a shop that prefers shorter, tighter titles gets them on every listing without a reminder. To rewrite a listing that is already live, use Update SEO in the listings manager, which rewrites the title, tags and description of that listing. The first Update SEO on each listing is free.

What to review before you trust it at scale

A writer you have not tested is a risk at any volume, so test it in proportion to the batch. This is the routine we suggest:

  1. If you prefer to look first, run the first designs on a new template as Etsy drafts (one setting on the run) and read the title, tags and description against the real product.

  2. Check that no title or tag names a brand, character, team or celebrity, and that the design itself is original.

  3. Confirm the items Etsy requires you to show: if you work with a production partner, Etsy says you must disclose that production partner in your relevant listings, and seller-prompted AI creations must disclose the use of AI.

  4. Once the pattern looks right, switch to live publishing or a drip, as explained in live, draft or drip, and spot-check each new batch.

  5. After publishing, use the listing score in the listings manager, which runs ten checks on a live listing and attaches the fix to each.
