Alomations applies a set of accuracy rules to every listing it writes: a personalized design gets Custom or Personalized in the title, fabric claims match the materials in your template, the product is called by its right name, and Etsy's listing attributes are filled from the product. Sample names from a personalized design also stay out of the title, tags and description, so the copy describes what a buyer can order rather than your demo.
This is for sellers who list at volume and cannot reread every word of every listing. One wrong phrase repeated across a shop turns into a pattern of confused messages and returns, and listing accuracy can also decide whether Etsy Purchase Protection applies when a buyer disputes an order.
Why listing accuracy is worth building in
Etsy's own listing guide asks you to "Describe the details of your item so buyers know what they're getting." (Etsy Help: creating a listing) The stakes are concrete. Etsy Purchase Protection covers a seller whose item "matches the listing description and photos, but a buyer claims it does not", yet it does not cover a case where "The item doesn't match the listing description." (Etsy Help: Purchase Protection) An accurate listing does not guarantee that cover, since Etsy sets other conditions too, but an inaccurate one rules it out.
When listings are written by hand, accuracy slips in predictable places: a title copied from an older listing, a cotton claim pasted onto a blend colour, a demo name left in the tags. The rules sit on exactly those spots.
| Rule | What it prevents | Where the information comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Custom or Personalized in the title | Buyers missing that they can add their own text | Whether the design has an editable field |
| Sample names kept out of the copy | Demo names in the title, tags and description | Detection of personalized designs |
| Fabric claims match the template | A cotton claim on a blend colour | The materials in your template |
| The right product name | A long-sleeve shirt called a tee | The product in your template |
| Attributes filled | Empty attribute fields, or ones that contradict the copy | The product in your template |
Custom or Personalized in the title
When a design is personalizable, meaning it carries an editable field such as a name or a date that the buyer fills in, the title says Custom or Personalized. Shoppers looking for a personalized gift tend to search with those words, and a buyer who reads them in the title knows before clicking that they will add their own text.
Because the wording follows the design, you do not have to remember to add it to each title by hand. Our article on personalizable designs explains how the field reaches Etsy with personalization switched on, and how the buyer's text is placed when the order arrives.
Sample names stay out of the copy
A personalized design needs sample text to look finished in a mockup: a first name, a family name, a wedding date. That sample is not the product. Alomations detects personalized designs, so the sample text is kept out of the title, the 13 tags and the description.
This protects both search and trust. Etsy gives you up to 13 tags per listing (Etsy Help: tags), and a tag spent on a demo name is a slot that rarely matches what buyers type. A title that reads like a shirt made for one named person also suggests the product cannot be changed. Choosing the sample itself is a separate decision, covered in which sample name to show on a personalized mockup.
Fabric claims follow your template
The description never invents a fabric. It takes the materials set in the template you choose for the run, so a sweatshirt template that lists cotton and polyester produces copy that says cotton and polyester.
Blanks are less uniform than their names suggest, which is why this matters. Gildan's spec sheet for the 5000 reads "5.3-ounce, 100% US cotton", then lists exceptions: Sport Grey and the Antique colours are 90/10 cotton/polyester, and heathers such as Dark Heather are 50/50 (Gildan 5000 spec sheet via Blankstyle). A blanket "100% cotton" line would be wrong for part of that colour range. Etsy's March 2026 update also removed the separate Materials tag field, so materials now live only as an attribute (Etsy Help: recent updates). See describing fabric and fit accurately for how to word blends and heathers.
The right product name
Product words carry a promise about cut and sleeve. The copy is written for the product your template names, and a long-sleeve shirt is never called a tee, because a buyer who reads tee expects short sleeves. That matters as soon as your shop sells long-sleeve shirts next to tees from our catalog, where a habit carried over from t-shirt listings would put the wrong garment in the buyer's head.
The same logic runs through the rest of the listing. A name that matches the product also matches the photos, the size chart and the attributes, so nothing on the page argues with anything else.
Attributes filled from the product
Attributes are the structured details Etsy asks for in each category. Etsy says "Attributes can also help buyers find your items more easily in search results." and advises "Fill out both attributes and tags for your listings." (Etsy Help: listing attributes) In a listing run, Alomations fills them from the product, so they agree with the title and description instead of contradicting them. Our guide to Etsy listing attributes explains which ones help shoppers find you.
What you still own
The rules are only as good as the template they read. If a template lists the wrong materials, the copy repeats them faithfully. Build each template once with care: product and category, price, sizes and colours, materials, SKUs, and the shipping, return and processing profiles. Check the materials against the blank's spec sheet before the first run. Building your first listing template walks through every field, and how it works shows where the template sits in a run.
When you want to read a listing before buyers can, choose draft instead of live on the run, and Alomations saves it to your Etsy shop as a draft. Keep an eye on what a rule cannot know, such as wording you add yourself after the run.
Frequently asked questions
When does Alomations add Personalized to a title?
When the design is personalizable, meaning it has an editable field for the buyer's text. The title then says Custom or Personalized.
Where does the fabric wording come from?
From the materials in the template you pick for the run. Correct the template and the listings you make from it afterwards follow the correction.
Will the sample name from my mockup show up in the tags?
No. Personalized designs are detected, and their sample text is kept out of the title, the tags and the description.
Can I review the copy before the listing goes live?
Yes. Choose draft on the run and the listing lands in your Etsy shop as a draft, ready for you to check.
