Etsy says a shipping price that is too high can push a listing lower in search for US sellers (Etsy Help: how Etsy search works), and that "US listings with domestic shipping prices lower than $6 will be prioritized in search" (Etsy Help: Search Visibility page). Delivery speed works less directly: Etsy's help pages do not say a faster delivery estimate ranks higher, but shipping on time with tracking is one of the customer service checks Etsy looks at.
This matters most for US shops, and for print-on-demand sellers whose shipping cost comes from a production partner's rates rather than a post office counter. Shipping is one of the few search signals you set with a single number, so it is worth getting right before you rework titles and tags.
What Etsy says about shipping price
Etsy's article on search placement lists a few things that can push listings lower. Two are about shipping and policies: having no return policy at all (Etsy notes that even a policy of no returns counts), and a shipping price that is too high, which Etsy applies to US sellers only (Etsy Help: how Etsy search works).
The Search Visibility page is more specific, with the $6 line quoted above. Read it carefully. It is about US listings, it is about domestic shipping, and the word is prioritized, not required. A listing above that line can still be found, but it gives up a preference that competing listings may have.
Why the $6 line matters for print on demand
Print-on-demand shipping comes from your production partner's rates, so where you sit against that line depends on the product and the partner. You have three ways to respond: charge the real shipping cost, offer free shipping and move the cost into the item price, or combine a lower shipping charge with a slightly higher price.
One fact makes the choice easier. Etsy's transaction fee "applies to the total cost of the item, along with shipping and gift wrap (if you charge your customers for those)" (Etsy Help: fees). Moving cost from shipping into the price does not change the transaction fee Etsy takes on the order. What changes is how the listing looks in search and at checkout. Delivery speed: what counts and what does not
The Search Visibility page lists customer service checks next to the listing checks: timely replies to buyer messages, shipping on time with tracking, a positive review score, and avoiding a high number of cases (Etsy Help: Search Visibility page). Etsy's announcement of that page names "a shop's average review rating, message response rate, and case rate" among the customer service factors (Etsy community announcement).
So the delivery signal Etsy names is reliability, not raw speed: ship by the date you promised, with tracking. None of the Etsy pages we read says a shorter delivery estimate earns a higher ranking, so treat any claim that it does as unconfirmed. Speed still matters indirectly. The same announcement says placement also depends on "keyword relevance and any search filters buyers may apply." And buyers see your delivery estimate before they pay: Purchase Protection requires an estimated delivery date on the listing and refers to the delivery window "provided at checkout" (Etsy Help: Purchase Protection). Reliability starts with processing time. Once at least 5 orders have shipped, Etsy can show buyers your actual processing time, based on the last 120 days of shipped orders (Etsy Help: processing times). If you sell from outside the US
The shipping price rule in Etsy's search article applies to US sellers. Sellers elsewhere, including in Türkiye, still feed the customer service checks above. US-bound orders also carry an extra rule from Etsy's June 2026 update: "Starting July 9, sellers outside of the US will need to account for all of their costs, including duties and import fees", and orders shipped without duties prepaid "will no longer qualify for Etsy Purchase Protection" (Etsy Help: recent updates).
