Gildan 5400 long sleeve shirts on Etsy

The Gildan 5400 is a long sleeve shirt, not a tee, and the listing should say so. When long sleeves sell on Etsy, how to describe them, and which designs suit them.

The Gildan 5400 is Gildan's long sleeve shirt, a cool-weather product that makes the most sense to list from early autumn through the holiday gift season, when buyers want sleeves. List it as a "long sleeve shirt" rather than a "tee", describe the fabric from the spec sheet for each colour, and choose designs that still read when the shirt is worn under an open jacket.

This guide is for sellers who already sell tees and want long sleeve versions of their best designs, including sellers outside the US who write their listings in English, where "tee" and "long sleeve shirt" are easy to mix up.

When long sleeve shirts sell

Long sleeves follow the weather and the calendar. For US buyers, demand usually builds as autumn starts and carries through Halloween on 31 October, Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26, 2026 and Christmas on December 25, then fades as spring warms up. Football season, fall festivals, bonfires and camping themes suit them too.

Designs about a job or a hobby (teachers in air-conditioned classrooms, anglers, early-morning gardeners) sell as long sleeves outside winter too, because the buyer picks the design first.

A listing may take up to 48 hours to appear in search and then needs time to collect views and favourites, so add long sleeve versions of your autumn and holiday designs in late summer or early autumn, not in December. Our fall and autumn design ideas are a good place to start.

Check the fabric before you describe it

Gildan publishes a spec sheet for each style, and that sheet, or your production partner's product page, is the only safe source for the weight and fibre content you put in a listing. Do not borrow the numbers from a Gildan 5000 listing or from another seller's long sleeve.

The Gildan 5000's own sheet shows why colour matters. It reads "5.3-ounce, 100% US cotton", then lists exceptions: Ash is 99/1 cotton/polyester, Sport Grey and the Antique colours are 90/10, and heathers such as Dark Heather are 50/50. A listing that says "100% cotton" for every colour is wrong for some of them. Expect the same kind of exceptions on a long sleeve, and check each colour you offer.

A March 2026 update removed the Materials tag field, so materials now exist only as a listing attribute. Fill it in, because Etsy says attributes can also help buyers find your items more easily in search results. Our guide to describing fabric and fit accurately covers the wording.

Naming and describing it, field by field

Etsy's advice is to clearly describe your item at the beginning of the item title, and a title can be up to 140 characters, with Etsy suggesting fewer than 15 words. For a 5400 that means "Long Sleeve Shirt" in the first few words, then the design theme, then who it is for.

Avoid the bare word "tee". Plenty of buyers read "tee" as short sleeves, so a title that says "Graphic Tee" on a long sleeve product invites "is this short or long sleeve" messages. "Long sleeve shirt" is unambiguous. Do not call it a sweatshirt either, since buyers expect a heavier, fleecy garment from that word.

Etsy's Search Visibility page checks that a listing uses the most specific category possible. For the description, Etsy says a person should be able to read the first sentence and know exactly what you're selling. You get 13 tags of up to 20 characters each, and "long sleeve shirt" fits in one. Measurements belong in a size chart taken from the 5400's own sheet, and our guide to building a size chart shows the layout.

Designs that suit a long sleeve

Front designs sit where they would on a tee, so a design that works on your tee usually works here. Long sleeves add two things worth using:

  • A sleeve print, if your production partner offers that placement. A word, a date or a small icon down one sleeve sets it apart from the tee. Check the placement exists before you promise it, and see t-shirt print areas for the usual sizes.

  • Cooler-weather themes: autumn leaves, pumpkins, cosy slogans, hunting and fishing seasons, holiday lettering.

Keep the important part of the design high on the chest. Many buyers wear a long sleeve under an open jacket or flannel, and anything near the hem disappears when the shirt is tucked in.

One listing or two

Since Etsy's September 2026 update, a listing can have variations for up to 3 item attributes, such as size, colour and style. That makes it possible to sell short and long sleeve in one listing, with the price varying by style. Listings with three variation types can have up to 2,500 option combinations, but unique prices and SKUs can be set for only up to 400 of them, so a wide size and colour range reaches the price limit quickly.

One listing gathers reviews and favourites in one place. Separate listings let each title lead with its own product name and first photo, which matters when a buyer searched for "long sleeve" specifically. We keep seasonal designs as separate long sleeve listings for that reason. Our explainer on what a variation is on Etsy covers the setup.

How Alomations lists a Gildan 5400

The Gildan 5400 is in the Alomations catalog, printed with DTF, and production for US orders is in the US. Its price is listed on the catalog page and shipping is quoted separately. You build a template once (product, category, price, sizes, colours, materials, SKUs, shipping, return and processing profiles), and every listing run applies it.

The run writes the title within 140 characters, all 13 tags and the description, and its accuracy rules cover this exact product: a long-sleeve shirt is never called a "tee", fabric claims in the copy match the template's materials, and Etsy listing attributes are filled from the product. Designs come back with light and dark versions, and tone rules per garment colour decide which version each colour gets. Each run publishes live in your shop, or as an Etsy draft if you prefer to look first. See how it works for the whole run.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Gildan 5400 a tee or a long sleeve shirt?

It is Gildan's long sleeve style. In titles, lead with "Long Sleeve Shirt" rather than "Tee", because many buyers read "tee" as short sleeves.

What fabric is the Gildan 5400?

Check Gildan's current spec sheet or your production partner's product page, colour by colour. On the Gildan 5000, for example, the base fabric is 100% US cotton but heathers are 50/50 cotton/polyester, and long sleeve styles can have similar exceptions.

When should I publish long sleeve listings?

Before the weather turns, so the listings are in search and have gathered some views before the gift season. A new listing can take up to 48 hours to appear in search.

Can I sell short and long sleeve in the same listing?

Yes. Etsy now allows up to 3 variation types, so style can sit next to size and colour, with the price varying by style. Separate listings let each title lead with its own product name.
