Etsy Listing SEO

Does price affect where your listing appears on Etsy?

Etsy does not name price as a search factor, but filters, US shipping prices and buyer choices still tie price to visibility. Here is what to change and what to leave alone.

Price is not one of the factors Etsy names when it explains what decides search placement, so cutting your price does not by itself move a listing up. Price still matters around search: shoppers can filter by it, US listings with low domestic shipping get priority, and price decides whether the people who find you actually buy.

This is for sellers weighing a price cut to get seen, and for sellers who worry that a price rise will bury their listings. Both decisions get easier once you separate what Etsy has said about search from what is guesswork.

What Etsy says decides placement

Etsy's Help Center says "Search results are ordered by how relevant the items are to what you search for" (Etsy Help Center). It adds that results differ from shopper to shopper, and that "Sellers control the most important factors in Etsy Search placement", naming tags and titles, attributes, listing quality and customer service (Etsy Help Center).

Price is not on that list. Etsy does not publish how its factors are weighted either, so nobody outside Etsy can tell you that a lower price earns a higher place. For the factors Etsy does name, see Etsy search ranking factors sellers can control.

Where price does change what shoppers see

There are three places where money clearly affects visibility.

Search filters. Etsy's announcement of its Search Visibility page says placement for any keyword also depends on "keyword relevance and any search filters buyers may apply" (Etsy Community announcement). When a shopper narrows a search to a price range, listings outside that range drop out of their results, however good they are. Our guide to Etsy search filters and how your listing qualifies for them covers the other filters.

Shipping price in the US. Etsy says "US listings with domestic shipping prices lower than $6 will be prioritized in search" (Etsy Help Center), and it lists a shipping price that is too high among the things that can push US sellers' listings lower (Etsy Help Center). This is the one price-related signal Etsy states outright, and it is about shipping, not the item price.

Etsy Ads. Ads run on an auction in which listing quality and bid amount are the two main factors, and "Ads use a different algorithm than results in regular Etsy search" (Etsy Help Center). A bid buys ad placement. It does not change your organic position.

Why the cheapest listing is not shown first

Relevance comes first. A cheap listing with a vague title and thin tags can match a search worse than a pricier listing that names exactly what the shopper typed. Listing quality counts too: Etsy's Search Visibility page checks for a clear, high-resolution primary photo, the most specific category and a return policy, and it looks at customer service such as message replies, on-time shipping with tracking and review score (Etsy Help Center).

None of those improve when you cut the price. What a cut does change is your margin. Etsy's transaction fee is "6.5% of the total order amount" and applies to shipping as well (Etsy Help Center). Payment processing adds a set rate plus a percentage that depends on your bank's country, for example 3% + 0.25 USD for a US account or 6.5% + 14 TRY for a Turkish one (Etsy Help Center). On a print-on-demand margin, a small price cut can take a large share of what you keep. Pricing print on demand products on Etsy: the margin math shows the numbers step by step.

How to price with search in mind

Start from what shoppers already pay. Etsy's Marketplace Insights tool shows the price ranges of recently bought listings for a search term (a June 2026 update), and you can save up to 50 searches (Etsy Help Center). If your price sits far above that range, expect more shoppers to filter you out or scroll past. If it sits far below, ask whether you are giving away margin for nothing.

If your US shipping is high, move part of it into the item price. The transaction fee covers shipping too, so the same total carries the same fee either way. What changes is what the shopper sees, which free shipping or charged shipping for POD on Etsy explores.

If you sell from outside the US, Etsy lets you set different prices for domestic orders, US orders and all other countries (Etsy Help Center), which helps when your costs differ by destination. When you want a short push, a sale of any whole percentage from 5% to 75% off (Etsy Help Center) gives shoppers a time-boxed lower price without touching your base price.

How Alomations helps you price

Before you touch a price, know your floor. On paid plans, the profit view in Alomations shows the profit you kept after Etsy fees and product cost on fulfilled orders, so you can see how much room a listing really has before a cut starts costing you money.

When you decide to change prices, the listings manager shows every connected shop's active and draft listings in one list and edits prices in bulk, by a percentage or to an exact amount. It is open on every plan, Free included. Moving a whole collection up by a set percentage becomes one edit instead of dozens. The steps are in bulk editing prices and tags with the listings manager. For new listings, your templates hold the price for each product and let you arrange prices across sizes, so every run starts from the price you chose.

Frequently asked questions

Will lowering my price move my listing up in Etsy search?

Etsy does not name price among the factors that decide placement, so there is no promise that a cheaper listing ranks higher. A lower price can still help a listing fit more shoppers' price filters.

Does free shipping help on Etsy?

For US listings, Etsy prioritizes domestic shipping under $6 in search, and free shipping meets that. Remember that the 6.5% transaction fee also covers shipping, so free shipping usually means a higher item price.

Should I put the price or words like "cheap" in my title?

No. Etsy advises leaving price and shipping details out of titles and avoiding subjective words. Use the space to describe what the item is.

Does running a sale change my search position?

Etsy does not list sales among the search factors it names. A sale lowers the price shoppers see for a set time, which makes it a buying incentive rather than a ranking tool.

You can try bulk price edits in the listings manager on the free plan.
